Unbound Concepts Announces New Board Appointments and Chief Operating Officer

The Board of Directors of Unbound Concepts announced the appointment of Joe McAvoy as a Director of the firm, effective September 2016. Additionally, Mr. McAvoy will serve as the head of the company’s compensation committee as well as filling the role of Chief Operating Officer.

Unbound Concepts Names Jay Jordan as Advisory Board Member

Unbound Concepts, creator of Artifact Access, which goes beyond standard metadata to help teachers, librarians and curriculum buyers search, identify, and discover content, today announced that Jay Jordan, the widely respected President and CEO Emeritus of the non-profit Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), has been named a member of the company’s newly formed Board of Advisors.

The announcement was made by Katie Palencsar, President and CEO, Unbound Concepts.

“I am very pleased and honored that Jay Jordan will be joining our advisory board,” said Ms. Palencsar. “Jay is known around the globe for his vision in library technology, his commitment to best library practices, and his unwavering support for extending OCLC’s mandate to serve all libraries and all peoples.”

Searching the Ocean of Books for Diversity

The message of Marley Dias, the 11 year old girl from New Jersey, determined to identify 1000 books with black, female protagonists has resonated across the book industry, as well as in national news coverage.

Marley, like so many other readers, was frustrated that a world with Google search and Twitter hashtags, could not help her search actual books for ideas that mattered to her.  Instead, she depended on the kindness of strangers who knew specific books and added them to Marley’s list.

Showcasing Gems in Stories

When publishers showcase the gems/artifacts INSIDE a story, the books become more easily discovered by readers. 

In "Last Stop on Market Street" a number of artifacts sparkle and shine: the story's diverse characters, emphasis on enthusiasm, use of metaphors, references to public transportation, caring characters, observation of daily routines, sense of empathy for others, familiarity of bikes and play, consideration of multiple perspectives, recognition of beauty, exploration of sound, attribution of wisdom, and the positive experiences of community helpers.
